Like it or not, this is about the only safe place you’ll find if you’re searching the dungeon for MacGuffin’s Treasure. Mel runs the kitchen from behind one of those impenetrable counters and the soothing British accent of Jameson Pointer makes sure that everyone is well informed and well liquored before tackling the unknown dangers outside his doors. The upstairs even boasts drive-in motel quality rooms with showers and thanks to some clever instancing via a liberal interpretation of the Many Worlds theory, there are always rooms available!
Speaking of many worlds, the other reason that prospective adventurers use Pointer’s as their base of operations is that the front doors offer access to any floor in the dungeon as long as you’ve been there before or are in possession of a plot coupon. Just punch in the code of the floor you want or scan your trusty coupon and push on the doors!
